Screenshot of the game Blobbit
Blobbit, which derives it’s name from the goo-ish blobs that are placed on the playfield, intermingles elements of ‘Go’ with a set of unique ideas. The goal, not unlike the Japanese game of ‘Go’, is to conquer the board—assimilating any other players.

Besides the baseline play variant, there are several play modes available to spice up the default conquest mode. This was added because I felt the game needed something that allowed it to retain replayability. Thus I added a level editor, a competitive online multiplayer mode to attain lasting appeal.

The game play mechanic pretty straightforward and should explain itself by playing a quick game against the AI. If you are stuck – there is a help function inside of the game, that probably does a better job at explaining the ways of playing this game, than I could do here.

All of the game engine was custom written, as are the AI routines and the multiplayer functions. The engine was later expanded to create Earth is a 3D Planet.

Feedback

  1. This game is great. I love it. But since the new snow leopard update (10.6.3) it doesn’t work anymore. The graphics aren’t displayed well.

  3. Hm, this is strange. I just tested it with all possible graphics options and it seems to work well. If you could contact me with some more details, I can see what I can do. Thanks!

  5. Okay, I found the bug affecting GMA 950 and other integrated graphics in Snow Leopard (10.6.3). It is now fixed.
Also the game should be a little bit more well behaved in multiplayer now.
