Dweller is an interactive movie game, created long after this genre, the interactive movie game, created during the advent of the CD-ROM, had disappeared. It was an experiment, how the subject of digital story telling can be tackled, creating tension and a feeling of uneasiness without compromising accessibility and/or relying on ‘twitch gameplay’. Besides the game production aspect, this project also introduced me into the matter of urban exploring.

This slow paced, deliberately spooky game was the result. It was created under tight time constraints, filmed on location in a, very cold, deserted iron ore mine in Germany. This game features German actors, hence the story is in German language, and not subtitled. Downloading it is only advised if you are willing to look over this fact or speak German.

Besides the script, the special effects, light and camera assistance I also created a 3D CG navigation menu. The game features a lot of widely shot interactive panoramic scenes. An unused interactive panorama, depicting the mine’s canteen, can be found seen below. (Adobe Flash player required.)

The game CGI (Rendered effects and graphics) and menu had to be created in little under 48h, due to the involved matte-painting and editing process for the panoramic shots taking much longer than initially anticipated.
